Easter

34
I love Easter! It's really probably my favorite holiday. I love how simple, yet profound the holiday is. I love that with Easter and spring we can celebrate the greatest gift we could have ever received from our Savior, new life.

I have tried over the years to make Easter meaningful and fun for my little ones. With my oldest now being 6, our traditions are still developing but here are some of the things we have done and enjoyed...

We do a 6 day countdown to Easter which includes craft or fun activities to do each day such as make an Easter Bunny, decorate Easter eggs, make an Easter treat, read an Easter book, watch an Easter movie, make an Easter craft. I put the ideas in plastic eggs with a number on it to countdown the days. Then we do the activity that is in that egg.
Our little Easter bunnies are made from socks...just fill the socks with beans, lentils, etc. and then tie it off on top with a rubber band. Cut the top of the sock straight down to make some floppy bunny ears. Add googly eyes, pom pom nose and tail, and whiskers from twine!
These Easter cookies are just vanilla frosting in the middle of 2 sugar cookies, then the sides are rolled in springy looking sprinkles.
Easter eggs! Have fun and draw pictures on the eggs with crayons, add stickers, use permanent marker...get creative!

There are many Easter craft ideas, but here is one we're going to do...it's a little bead bracelet, and each bead represents something about Easter...

Red is for the blood He gave
Green is for the grass where He prayed
Yellow is for the sun so bright
Orange is for the thorns so tight
Blue is for the sins others made
White is for the grace He gave
Purple is for the hour of sorrow
Pink is for the new tomorrow.

Our Easter baskets are usually pretty simple. Some Easter candy, maybe a book or coloring book and crayons, a picture of something about Jesus, and maybe one simple springtime toy/activity (pin wheels, bubbles, a ball, a kite, rain boots and umbrellas, etc.)

I also love to dress them up all matchy and cute for church! The boys get a new tie and/or shirt and of course our baby girl this year will get a new dress and headband! Can you just see our little flower in this year's picture?! I'll be sure to post an updated picture...baby girl and all!

This year we decided to try out these ideas here throughout the week. I thought these daily spiritual activities were great and could easily be done after dinner or before bedtime, most of them just take about 5 minutes. While I think children need some fun things to do, I also believe wholeheartedly that they are not too young to enjoy and understand things of a spiritual nature and I am hoping these ideas will help us all understand and remember the importance of Easter and the events that lead to the glorious resurrection.

We also have done the "Rescurrection Egg" tradition found here. My little ones have loved this and we are doing it again this year, but we will look through all the eggs on Easter instead of the days before as we have done before.

Have fun with your little ones, and enjoy this beautiful holiday! Here's one more link to enjoy http://www.lds.org/topics/easter?lang=eng
