Since finding out we were having a baby girl, I've observed girls, young woman, and grown woman differently. I watch them and wonder what my baby girl will grow up to be like. Will she be sweet and shy, will she be tolerant and kind, funny and outgoing? What will she be interested in?
When I look my baby's sweet face, like any new mother I'm sure, I want nothing but the best for her. I don't want her to experience heartache or loneliness (even though I know she will). Naturally, I only want good things for her.
I can only hope that I will be a good role model for her of how much fun it is to be a girl, how special it is, and especially the joys that come with motherhood. With my observations since knowing I'd have a daughter of my own, I've thought of several things I hope I can instill in this sweet baby and teach her as she grows. Some of these things I'm still working on myself and I'm sure this list will evolve but for now, this is what's on my mind and in my heart.
You are a daughter of our Heavenly Father. He loves you so much and
wants you to be happy. When you remember this, you can never feel
alone.
You are special. There is nobody else like you and that is a wonderful thing!
You are lucky to have 3 older brothers, but not just any brothers,
the ones you have. They all love and adore you. They all have since day
one! They will be your biggest protectors. I've always told them to keep
you safe. They always will, and you can count on them.
Your Daddy loves you more than you could imagine. No matter what,
you will always be his baby girl and he will do anything for you that he
possibly can.
I don't think there are words to tell you how much I love you. I am
always here for you to listen to, to hold you, offer advise, and just to
love you. Nothing could make me love you more, or less. I love you no
matter what.
We exercise and eat to be healthy. Not to be skinnier or prettier. As long as you are being healthy, your body is just right just the way it is!
You are beautiful. You can wear make-up and do all those other girly things to enhance your natural beauty and to compliment it, but remember, you are beautiful in your natural state.
Modesty is always fashionable.
You can never have too many friends, but make sure they are good friends.
Surround yourself with friends (boy or girls) that make you feel better about yourself. That help you to become better. Don't waste your time on anyone that puts you down.
You can do anything...don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Work hard, pray hard, and leave the rest to the Lord.
Don't ever sell yourself short. Always do your best and that will be enough.
Don't compare yourself to others. Being a girl is fun, but comparing is something not fun that girls often do. You will never be happy when you compare.
Always try to use kind words. This is something my mother taught me. She reminded me that angry and mean words is like spiders, snakes, and bugs coming out of your mouth. Whereas, kind words are like flowers, butterflies, and jewels coming out of your mouth. You will probably never regret using kind words.
Be kinder to people than you think they might deserve. Kindness matters!
Find solutions rather than focusing on the problem.
Doing service is never convenient. Do it anyways!
It's okay to ask for help. Sometimes people won't know how they can help you until you ask.
You are important. Having a guy in or out of your life doesn't change that.
It's okay to have a date with Mr. Darcy.
If there is something good to try, try it! Don't be afraid to try new things.
Some of your greatest lessons will be learned when you fall. Just remember to get back up!
Be silly. Smile and laugh a lot...learn to laugh at yourself.
