Potty Training Tips

34
We are currently in the midst of potty training our youngest son! Which is very exciting, because that means we are down to buying one set of diapers again. With each of our boys we have tried at 2 years...but they didn't seem quite ready until about 2 1/2. So that is where we are at with our littlest guy. It's been 10 days and for the most part he is doing great! Everyone says girls are so much easier to potty train...if that's true, our little girl is going to be a breeze, because our boys have not really been hard!

So here are some of the things we have used and have helped us have success with the training...

I follow my own variation of the 3 day potty training. Basically I use that idea and then what works for that child, and our schedule. I think it's brilliant and really helps the child on the road to success in regards to using the potty.

We also like to have them watch this fun little Elmo video about potty training a couple weeks prior to the kick off of the training as well as through out. It's a cute little video explaining the whole potty training in a very simple but fun way. Really, what toddler doesn't like Elmo...and our boys have remembered what he says in it!

We like to use the little potty chairs from IKEA. They are not very expensive...$4.99...they are high in the front so you don't have to worry about spray issues...and very easy for them to just sit down and use by themselves...and portable if needed!

We use rewards or incentives that work for that child...we've used stickers, M&M's, extra TV time, etc.

Even with all the success though, accidents happen! So here's what we have found cleans the mess  up effectively!

1 cup of water mixed with
1 Tbs of hydrogen peroxide or 1 Tbs of vinegar
1 Tbs of dish soap

This mixture will get the stain out if any! (works great for other stains in the carpet or furniture too...just test in a small area first to make sure you aren't going to ruin anything)

After that dries, sprinkle some baking soda on top of the accident area and vacuum it up! That will make sure the smell isn't there still!

So good luck with the potty training when it's your turn and tackle those accidents with confidence! :) Good luck!
