DIY Bows, Bows, Bows!

34
In some ways I'm a very all or nothing type of person. One thing that I'm all or nothing is how I dress my little ones. I love dressing my boys all boy and now my girl all girl. I loved putting my baby boys in hats, ties, blues, little jeans, hoodies, and button down shirts like their daddy! And now I love putting my baby girl in bows, flowers, dresses, skirts, pink, bracelets, and necklaces! What can I say...I like to accessorize my babies! When we were in New York, some ladies actually stopped my husband and couldn't get over our baby's great accessories! I think I've mentioned previously that I don't think Violette has gone a day in her life without a bow or flower in her hair...here are some of my favorite style of bows so far!

The Diva Bow

 The Little Miss

The Vintage Bow

They are all so different, but all go great with just the right outfit. I love the Diva bow to really dress her up for church, pictures, or holidays! I love the Little Miss bow for that sweet preppy look, and the Vintage bow for that everyday sweet classic look. I mean seriously, how cute is that...
One day when Violette was wearing one of these little Vintage bows, a little girl that had never seen a bow like that commented on how cute it was. She then said, "But how is it staying on her head?" I responded that I used a bit of corn syrup to keep it in place. She said, "Oh that's good. I thought maybe you used hot glue or something like that!" Do not use hot glue! Just a dab of something sticky like corn syrup will keep it stuck to her sweet head all day. And since my baby girl doesn't have much hair, well, these are perfect for her!

As for the Diva, Violette also wore one for Easter. Here is the tutorial if you want to make one for your own little Diva...

What you will need:
Ribbon
Hot Glue
Boa Feathers or large artificial flower
Embellishments

First cut your ribbon in 4 equal pieces. I did mine about 5 inches. If you did longer, the bow will be bigger. I did 4 pieces for each level, but you could do more pieces for each level and that would make it fuller.

For the first two levels you will just loop the ends together and put a dab of hot glue between each end.

Then for the next two levels, you will loop them around so they look like the picture below. And again stick together with hot glue.

So before you assemble everything you'll have lots of loopy loops like below...

Now for the assembly! Place your first level so that the loops make an X. Then get your next level of ribbons and make an X again but have it alternate with the first level, like this...(again use hot glue to keep it all in place)

Then get your next ribbon level and place the loopys over the first level, and the next level over the second like this...

Now to fill in the hole in the middle I used some of a feather boa. It helped to kind of swirl it around the middle. This is where I also think it would be cute to use a large artificial flower or you could place embellishments on the feather part too (like pearly beads some kind of gemmy bead) just get creative!
Glue a piece of felt as big in diameter you can get without it showing. The bigger it is the less floppy your bow will be once it's on your little girl's head. You can glue an alligator clip on the back or attach it directly to an elastic headband. If you attach it directly to the headband, I would place the headband in the middle of the bow and the felt.

Now go find your cute girl and have fun accessorizing! :)
