There is an old saying that I don't even know where it came from that goes, "Sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me." I really don't like it...at all! Words hurt. Words stay in your mind. Words can affect the way you feel.
Sometimes, I would much rather someone throw a stick or a stone at me then hear mean words, or that people perceive me to be mean. It's just down right hurtful when people say something that isn't true or nice.
I hope that I can teach my sweet daughter this (and my boys too) that it is never okay to be mean. It is never popular. It will never make you happy to be mean to someone else. I also hope to teach her that just because someone else is doing good, doesn't mean you are not. We can all enjoy success if we allow each other that.
I love the quote below and really hope that I can model these characteristics for my baby girl. And for my boys...because I'd like to believe that the type of woman I model for them, is the type of woman they would marry one day.
I hope to model someone who is tender, kind, refined, faithful, good, virtuous, and pure. That is what the world needs. That is what each person needs to see daily for happiness and hope.
I don't like to think about that, but I know it will likely happen that someone will be mean to her. What a sad day that will be. But hopefully I can be prepared to help her to remember and recognize her individual worth and beauty inside and out.
